Ello Lovies!!! A few weeks ago I was honored to be invited by my friend, Blogger & fellow Type 1 Diabectic Paloma @glitterglucose to a local event called Blogsgiving hosted by 2 local Bloggers Josie @hellosilhouette & Mer @SheForksPhx held at Sip Coffee & Beer Garage in Phoenix. These two fun & gracious co-hosts put together a social haven for us local Bloggers to get together, network & enjoy some amazing Thanksgiving themed food with a great Dj!🍽🎶
It was delightful, literally a gathering of friends with like minds. Josie & Mer spoke about how exponentially the attendance of Blogsgiving had grown from just last year to what it was now- almost 50 more people!!🙋🏽
They provided delicious turkey sandwiches with stuffing, cranberry sauce, salad, Mac & cheese (my favorite😋) and for dessert their piece de resistance seasonal bread pudding. Yummy doesn’t begin to cover it & let’s not talk about their customized cocktail, Cheers!🍹
There were also 2 guest speakers, the first the Co-owner of Sip & Beer Garage who spoke of the importance of local businesses & his history. The second speaker, Quinn Tempest a Designer & Digital Strategist @quinn.tempest had such inspiring words to say & is just an inspiration in general.
I never knew there were so many Bloggers in Arizona & to have them all in one place & be so kind & willing to uplift each other was indeed a dream come true! Here is a pic of some of the sweet souls I met & look forward to hopefully forming alliances with in the future… from left to right we have Anica @nicarose, Avi @AlwaysAvi, Becca @bbooks, Chaila @Chailajo, Allyssa @simplyallyssa, myself & lastly Lauren @lipglossandliving.
Overall a joyous occasion & one I look forward to attending next year & the years to come. Cheers indeed Josie & Merr I’ll forever remember November 14th 2017 as the year I made many new friends & was accepted into the Bloggers circle.
Ello Lovies! Can you bloody believe it’s less than a week until the festive season officially starts?? I can’t bloody well believe it I tell you it’s manic!😳
The Past couple of weeks have flown by but what really stood out was the milestone I celebrated with my husband- 10 years of marriage!😊 Many people think it’s easy promising yourself to one person your whole life & in theory it is but actually keeping that promise is the hard part. Especially whilst living in 2 different countries when you see each other every 3 months. Falling in love is easy but staying in love & constantly working to maintain that love is hard f**king work. I want to share with you the story of how I met my love to mark our 10 year milestone of being husband & wife!😋
May 21st 2005 I was 3 months away from graduating from De Montfort University in Leicestershire, United Kingdom. I found myself at a neighboring student union (student bar) in Leicester University, (West Midlands outside of London) consoling one of my Besties who’d recently broken up with a guy whom she loved & thought loved her back but found out he was a liar!🙄 I heard a male voice ask to put his drink on my table & irritably responded “yes” then looked up to see the hottest guy i’d EVER seen I kid you not. He was well over 6 feet tall, dark & handsome. It was lust at first sight!😳 Trying to be a good friend I ignored that feeling & went back to my distraught friend. She could see I was in lust so she pushed me to the dance floor when the said male voice asked me to dance. Now I expected him to dance seriously like my past dance partners but all he did was take the piss (make fun) of himself busting the silliest dance moves i’d ever seen. I remember laughing really hard whilst getting to know him & when the night ended he asked me the phrase i’ll never forget “Do you know I’m American??” To which I responded “yes, so?!” His name was Zack, he lived in Scottsdale, Arizona & was visiting British friends who went to ASU for a semester but attended Leicester University. Zack had plans to visit family in Italy & Denmark whilst on his first European trip ever & today was his second day in Europe. He asked me if he could come up to my place having walked me home following our dance off & I told him “you have to work for it!” to which he laughed at as the next day on our official first date of dinner & a comedy club he did indeed work for it! lol🤣
We spent 2 weeks together trying not to fall in love to which we surely did. Zack went to visit his family in Italy & Denmark & then came back to see me in Leicester extending his trip as we knew our bond was special. However the impending question was as we lived in 2 different countries, Arizona & England how were we going to make this work??😕 It just so happened my Cousin was getting married later that year in Southern California & my whole family were traveling there so we made plans to meet up & drive to Arizona after.
We spoke everyday for the 6 months we were apart as with a long distance relationship you don’t have a “relationship” unless you do indeed speak everyday. There were tough times of missing each other, bouts of jealousy, crying, & we even broke up twice & made up twice as the love was still there! Everyone told us to stop this madness but we loved each other too much & having a relationship across 2 continents you have to be somewhat insane & we were just for each other!
Zack drove to visit me in California a week before my cousins wedding & met my immediate family (all 8 of them) & my Father who was a bit paranoid had my older sister Mary video tape him. She asked Zack questions like “Are you a Rapper?” (just in case, I later found out by Mary I went missing after traveling to Arizona with zack) Lmao!! 😆It just so happened the wedding got cancelled so we got to spend even more time together. Visiting Arizona was a blast & we could really see a future together…
After 2 & a half years of visiting each other every 3 months London to Arizona, Arizona to London (cheers indeed British Airways one flight a day!🙋🏽) Zack proposed to me around Christmas 2006 on my visit to Arizona & I said yes! I moved to Arizona April 2007 & for immigration purposes got married June 24th (as a Brit you can remain in the States for up to 3 months at a time only) by the Pastor who would later marry us in front if our family & friends . We then planned our entire wedding together in 7 months & got Married in front of 130 guests from Nigeria (my original birth place) London & all over the U.S at McCormick Ranch on November 11th, 2007 or 11/11/07. That is how we came about! Through all the struggles love prevailed in the end. Happy 10 Years Zacko!❤️
Ello Lovies! We’ve officially entered the holiday season with Halloween just yesterday & thanksgiving around the corner! 🎃 Apologies to anyone who doesn’t know what Thanksgiving is. It’s our first Christmas here in the States except there are no presents which in my opinion is the BEST, no pressure & no expectations!🙋🏽 Just some great company & good food shared among family & friends if your lucky.
I can’t tell you how nice it is to finally have a physical change of weather (especially for people who live in the Desert like myself.) I love this time of year as it reminds me of living in London when the air is crisp in the morning & you can see the fog of your breath when you talk…
After 7 months of planning & living in chaos our renovations you reckon is DONE!!! Yes people we survived our renovations!!!😱 Zack & I are so relieved to have our house back & have even gone as far as hosting 2 intimate dinners with friends. Here is the finished product…
The top left image is the before the renovations. I took this pic collage as I like to be dramatic & showcase the exact change so you can see the differences!😋Doesn’t it look like a different house?? Our contractor & his team did such a bang up job that I find myself going into my kitchen at 2 am & turning on the lights just so I can look at it again…😊
Other than the maple cognac cabinets being installed we raised them higher & got rid of the Soffet to the right (see the original image) that blocked off the entire room opening it all up & with that created a Peninsular. In addition lighting played a big part as we added 5 new canned lights, 3 pendant lights over the peninsular, a Game of Thrones👑 inspired rustic chandelier over the dining table (see bottom left image) & lastly a new fan/light in the music room. We centered the sink, (as it wasn’t before) 🙄 purchased a black under mount sink (so durable) & the piece de resistance was the Volcano Granite countertop spread out. A new range & gas & electric combined stove completed the look with white subway tile backsplash that opened up the room entirely. A big shout out & cheers indeed to AZ Home Remodel we are forever grateful!🙋🏽😍
Halloween is most peculiar in the best way with pumpkin carvings & people dressing up for fun. I’d never seen a real life pumpkin until I moved to the States & to be honest don’t really care for the taste. When this holiday comes around I hear “pumpkin this & pumpkin spice that” & get so enthralled with this pumpkin madness!🎃However, if you can’t beat them, join them & my favorite thing to do during Halloween is dress up! Here are my top 3 outfits that had I done anything this year I would have dressed up as…
Option 1: Wonder Woman. Did you see that empowering film released earlier this year? Female lead, Female Director & predominantly Female Cast & Producer. Need I say more??
Option 2: Khaleesi & Khal Drogo because it’s Game of Thrones’ epic couple & those characters are EVERYTHING!! All hail the Mother of Dragons!
Option 3: Pennywise from the movie “IT” though creepy this character has risen in popularity with the updated release of the movie… And it’s creepy A.F.
I hope you all made some amazing memories this year. Catch you next time Lovies & remember comments are alway welcome! Cheers & Best Wishes,
Ello Lovies! I hope your week day has been going great?! My renovations you reckon is 1 day away from being complete if you can believe it?! We’re getting so excited to have our kitchen/ house back after Glamping (Glamorous Camping) for 3 weeks!😳 Everything in our house is at an upheaval as we’re painting our hallway, color matching the ceiling of our kitchen to our dining room as they’re all one space now with the kitchen remodel & re-painting the husband, Zack’s office. I didn’t realize he had so many freaking sneakers & I thought I was bad! Lol😏 Here’s a sneak peek of our custom new maple cognac cabinets that just went up from Woodmark! Awesome sauce!🙋🏽
Don’t know if you know this but I’ve been living in Arizona for 10 years (since April 2007) having moved here for Love & found myself lacking in Black girlfriends. Coming from such a multicultural background & living in London pretty much my whole life in such a melting pot, I paid no attention to it. I have to mention I have every nationality of girlfriend & do not discriminate against any race but I just couldn’t build a long lasting connection with any black women in Arizona. Missing the closeness of my 5 sisters (who live in London) since I’d moved across the pond & Zack could see that with my obsession with the HBO show Insecure. I would act like the main characters Issa Rae & Molly we’re my Besties so with that clear indication he encouraged me to seek out more “Sister” friends! 😂 I went on Facebook & lo & behold there was an invite to a black Girl Magic Phoenix Brunch that was being held 2 miles down the road from where I live. If that wasn’t a sign I don’t know what was!! Now this event had popped up in my Facebook news feed many times but I was a little nervous going on my own but I finally grew some female balls, purchased a ticket online & selected my brunch choice with beverage (omlette with bottomless mimosas🍳🥂) Cheers!😋
Cueing up in line I started to do what I always do which is nervously sweat & question what the HELL I was doing there?! A lady in front of me in line with long bouncy curls & stylish framed glasses smiled So I spoke asking her if it was her first time which it was then we went from there.I sat next to her & we introduced ourselves, chatted then 2 other ladies came to the same table asking to sit as well & we all connected, shared our stories & exchanged contact details with plans to meet at a later date…Here are the beautiful ladies I met at the Black Girl Magic Phoenix Brunch whom I hope to develop a solid friendship with!😍
After getting to know the ladies at our table the Creator of Black Girls Brunch Gaybrielle, a Phoenix Native introduced herself to the entire room, a warm & bubbly lady whom I could not be more enthralled by! She introduced her Co-Founder of Black Girl Magic Phoenix Kyley & a volunteer Deanna. Gaybrielle described that Black Girl Brunch was created for black women to “see” each other, network & it was a place where ladies became “Sister Friends” & I totally agree with that. Gaybrielle mentioned that they usually shine light on one of the guests/ members business but this week they just wanted everyone to mingle & get to know each other… Here’s a shot of Gaybrielle & I after a little sesh on the dance floor.💃🏿💃🏿
There was a lot of dancing with a fun Dj, networking, delicious peach cobbler cheesecake dessert & bottomless mimosa’s, a fun experience it was indeed!!! If your looking for strong black women who are self- driven, empowered & looking for girlfriends then this is for you.
Ello Lovies! It’s Fall y’all! I just LOVE that American expression as it flows so freely on the tongue don’t you think?! In England we just fall into the autumn weather with no expression other than “its bloody cold!”😂 but here in the states I find each weather is categorized & with it comes the “sweater weather” lifestyle. We have pumpkin spice everything which as a Brit I’ll never understand the taste (sorry not sorry😋) winter wear & all the delicious holidays that come with it like Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas & Kwanzaa (depending on your beliefs!) On a side note the dress I’m wearing is the infamous wrap dress in the lipstick print from Diane Von Furstenberg I actually won from the luxury brand I run my business through… lucky me💋
I’m loving the fact that fall has begun only because my kitchen renovation just began, lovely Jubbly! Our Renovation team gave us 3 weeks to complete it (sept 18th-October 6th) so fingers crossed! It’s so exciting not having to cook everyone keeps telling me but me being me I prepped meals for 2 weeks and a half beforehand, fridged (is that a word?🤔) & froze them! Glamping (glamorous camping) as our Electrician hysterically called it as I was scooping pre-baked chicken from one at home Tupperware into my takeaway one for my work lunch crouched on our front room rug & low table using plastic cutlery is quite the challenge but I’ll take it for what our kitchen is going to be transformed into… These are pics I took before & after the demolition … crazy to think it’s the same space right?!
We chose maple cognac custom cabinets from the brand Woodmark, Volcano Granite countertops (which look like a volcano effect) & simple white subway tile for our backsplash which will balance everything out. I can’t wait to show you the after picture!😍 Golly gumdrops I’m excited! We’re into the second week now with the kitchen completely ripped out & they just started our cabinet installation & told us that 2 cabinet pieces are missing, another piece sent is 3 shades darker than the entire cabinet set we ordered & we have no filler for the cabinets ( to fill in the spaces where the cabinets meet the ceiling) so… Drama ensues…I’ll have to call back our kitchen planner & guilt him into sending us those pieces A.S.A.P as it’ll delay all the other work such as countertop installation if not.😏 I’ll keep you lovies posted…
This fall season it’s all about Le Jacket (the Jacket) and there are so many variations of jackets it’ll make your head spin but variety IS the spice of life (I think I’m saying that right?😋) & boy are we scorching!☄️ We have the Check Jacket, Pattern play, Velvet, Rocker, Sartorial, Evening, Bright jacket, the Double- Breasted Jacket, Monochromatic & Jacquard Jacket to name a lot. From designers such as Saint Laurent, Akris Punto, Stella McCartney, Brunello Cuccinelli & Etro there are an abundance of designers to choose from! I put together 3 pieces of my favorite fall jacket trends!
My first choice is from Etro & their Floral Jacquard Blazer at $2370.00 is everything! The rich colors pop with the pattern play & I would totally put it with neutrals so that it continues to be the central piece. For work or play this is a dream!
My second choice is this Check Tweed Jacket from St John at $1795.00 that is very “Jackie O”. It’s cropped so hits you just at the curve of the hip which is the most flattering point & the Check pattern is SO hot right now. This jacket is timeless. Pass me those oversized shades please?!😎
My final choice is this Bright Jacket by Escada at $1725.00. It’s cashmere & wool blend will keep you warm during those cool winter nights & that color will warm up every outfit. The cut may be a little conservative but the button front can be unbuttoned for variety!
There are so many jackets to choose from to reiterate so go with your gut as that almost never lets you down. I hope this mini guide helps with your outerwear choices for this season. Catch you next time Lovies, Cheers & Best Wishes,
Ello Lovies! The last 2 weeks have been hectic with life & me trying to get back on my gym game. I’ve been slacking, still trying to hold on to that summer Holidaze “feels” of chilling. As a type 1 Diabectic it’s essential for me to exercise as it lowers my blood sugars naturally & the less insulin (which is a protein that keeps me alive) I use, the better. I know I haven’t touched much on my condition but I was diagnosed a month before my 27th birthday for juvenile (or type 1) diabetes which is pretty old in age diagnosis. Some children get it as young as 3 years old but at almost 27 years it was rare & I’ve been living with this condition for 6 years (shhh don’t tell anyone my age 😊). Firstly there are 2 types of diabetes if you don’t know. Type 1 is hereditary & Type 2 is not. Type 1 diabetes is an incurable condition that can only be managed & I do that by checking my blood sugar about 5 times a day, (pricking my finger with a lancet & placing my blood drop on a test strip that produces a reading) counting carbs I eat & calculating that by how much medication (insulin) to give myself to control it, exercising & trying to eat well. Doctors nicknamed my condition Type 1.5 (which is even more uncommon) as I got to lead a relatively normal childhood without syringes, blood tests, insulin & such…
This all came about when my Hubster Zack & I decided to take a trip to Las Vegas as we were promoting his Printing & Embroidery business in 2011 & after much debauchery of late nights, drinking, no sleep & eating all the wrong foods we got back home to Arizona & I found it hard to look at the television or images in general. My gym workouts were a struggle as I had no energy to run on the treadmill & was easily out of breath which was abnormal being an athlete my whole life. The real kicker came when I started to vomit everything I ate & in 3 days lost 15 lbs. My extremely worried husband took me to a random doctors office & after checking me out (with no blood test) told me I had a “cold” & prescribed me sugary syrup cough medications. BIG MISTAKE! (oh I feel like Julia Roberts in Pretty Women when she gets shunned by the snooty sales associates then goes back to said store with all her new shopping bags to tell them off !!😂) After taking the prescribed medications I disintegrated further becoming disorientated & my Zack & mum-in -law Kris carried me to the hospital. The doctors & nurse did some blood tests & said a normal person’s blood sugar should be between 80-120 mg/dl, mine was tested at 1200 mg\dl. Firstly I was diagnosed as a Type 1 Diabectic (basically my God given pancreas stopped working) secondly I was entering a Diabectic coma, and lastly a couple more days going untreated & I would have been dead.
I was in the I.C.U for 3 days & the hospital for 5 more days after that…it’s a miracle I’m alive today.
Zack says he would ask me the days leading up to my diagnosis if I was awake or asleep & I would say disorientated shaking my head “I’m in between, I’m in between!”. We laugh about it now because we were crying at the time…what doesn’t kill you & all…literally! Very dramatic but there you have it with my diagnosis story. My pancreas was in a honeymoon phase & was producing insulin from somewhere nobody knows but it had a limited supply hence I was labelled a Type 1.5 Diabectic. It eventually shut down after our Vegas trip just before I turned 27! Happy. Freaking.Birthday.To. Me.
So exercise is a big part of my life like my condition I have to do it. Boxing, running, stepping, eliptical, cycling, weight & circuit training fitness, you name it i’ve done or am doing it 3-4 times a week. I want to live a long life & between seeing an endocrinologist ( my diabetes doctor) & dentist every 3 months I hopefully will! I now manage my condition with a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) and an Omnipod (wireless pump) personal diabetes manager, pre-filled flex pen with insulin & syringes & My last A1C (how i’ve managed the sugar in my blood for the last 3 months) was 7.3. (could be better & working on that but not perfect)
I find ways to incorporate my Diabectic style into my wardrobe by either hindering my pump (when I wore one) with fun & funky armbands to secure it for my workouts or swimming. Or just showing it off. My favorite experience was when a lady walked up to me at a supermarket & blatantly pointed at my arm & asked “what is that?” I replied it’s my outside pancreas! She looked appalled & started to walk away but I explained to her what it really entailed & she ended up offering to take me out for tea! Lovely jubbly!!☕️🙋🏽
Hopefully you’ve enjoyed how I became “Le Diabectic” feel free to leave comments below, I welcome them! Catch you next time!
Ello lovies! Happy almost new month, golly gumdrops August sped by fast didn’t it? However, I’m so excited that we are almost officially out of pre-fall collections & onto the good stuff…Fall! The vendors at the luxury brand I run my business through have been showcasing looks with heavier materials guaranteed to keep us cozy yet stylish during these winter months…
During my summer holidaze we saw so many amazing street styles that we attempted to take pics of however, I was informed that a release form is needed so that went out the window!! I’ll just have to rely on the kindness of my friends! Anywhoo I noticed a lot of lace-up tie detailing in downtown San Francisco from pants, tops, swimwear & even accessories which ties into my next topic (like what I did there?)
This weeks blog is possibly one of my favorite pre-fall themes Lace- up! It’s so sexy & when I think of Lace detailing I think of the movie 50 Shades. Laces, ribbons & drawstring details have been all the rage dangling in the front & at the back of tops, on side seams of trousers giving attitude whilst looking undone & sexy AF! I myself invested in some body suits with that detailing! Brands such as Dion Lee, Philip Lim, ALC, Jonathon Simkhai & Scripted have been showcasing this on their resort 2017 runway collections. Here’s how I would style it!
This dress is brilliant for my petit ladies, great to cinch with a belt to accentuate that waist or leave as is, this Bohemian badarse gorgeous bell sleeve minidress by Kendall & Kylie at $225.00 is such a steal! I paired it with a Topshop straight brim double trim fedora $52.00, Orion studded cross body bag also from Topshop $55.00 & lastly Prada Vitello lace up booties $1100.00 in dark red. Yasss!
For my curvaceous ladies, I went with a more casual look by Iro, this Alety lace-up long -sleeve top in Ivory $285.00, A.L.C Kingsley high-waist lace-up pants (to give you that seamless look) $395.00 & for a pop of color this Holographic cross body bag by skinny dip is insane at $60.00. Obsessed! Lastly I teamed it with lace-up platform metallic Brunello Cuccinelli Trainer sneakers $1495.00 (the dream!)
My last look I went with this flirty lace-up back Alba Linen Tee from A.L.C, $175.00 (that back detailing is EVERYTHING!) this laced with edge Hardwired lipstick from Nars (limited edition) $26.00 is so fierce. Flirty Milos lace-up suede miniskirt from Parker $398.00 with grommets, Lexi Leather cross body finish bag from Topshop $68.00 & lastly my favorite pop of color yells Gianvitto Rossi suede scrappy lace-up Sandals $995.00. There you have it Loves, Lace on Lace on Lace! lol
This is such a fun trend & one I would reccomend for any & all body types! For my Diabectic users as long as your weary of your tubing from your pump (Medtronic users) & strategically place it away from the hanging lace detailing (entanglements suck) you should be good!
Catch you next week Wednesday lovies for more fashion tips & inspiration!
The final & last chapter of our summer vacation in San Francisco, CA had us visiting the Gotham Club at the San Francisco Giants baseball Stadium which was the Hubster Zack’s favorite day by far!⚾️ My mother in law’s childhood friend Shirley was gracious enough to lend us their passes to this extravagant sports club that overlooked the baseball stadium, had its separate bar, allowed you to walk partly on the San Francisco Giants dugout field & lastly had a bowling alley on the top floor! Cheers!
After our last day in the City we packed up & drove 4 hours up to Lake Tahoe for our family reunion. Tahoepalooza (dubbed by my mum in law Kris & to all after that?) was planned to be a fun extravaganza where 15 of us family members would hit the beach, eat great food from our Italian side, sightsee & most importantly reconnect with loved ones for 3 days. We did all those things & more…
Not seeing my mum-in-Law for 2 months had quite an effect on me which was great as we got to catch up like no time had passed in a matter of 20 mins (Don’t you just love relationships like that?!)
Here is a pic of my mum-in-Law Krissy & I hugging it out as she’s making one of her infamous dips for Appetizers that night… LOVE THAT WOMAN! I’m wearing a Zara floral maxi dress with a BCBG gold & black belt to cinch in the waist & black Sam Edelman thong sandals to complete the look! Here is a picture of the family cabin that we’ve had in our family since the 1960’s (with some renovations of course) it’s a piece of heaven!
So I’m not much of a fan of the beach (being black & all) but for one day a year I join the masses & Zack & I are here enjoying those rays? I’m wearing a cherry red Robin Piccone one piece swimming costume with cutouts from Nordstrom, a white vitamin E cover up from Everything But Water, a tan visor from H &M & my favorite sunnies from Quay Australia.
One of my favorite things to do at Tahoe other than mini golf, sight see & eat is drink (being on holiday & all?) & a local restaurant called Garwoods is the place to do it! They’re infamous for their signature drinks called “Wet Woodys” a concoction of rum & deliciousness that doesn’t taste like alcohol which we know can be dangerous… here is a pic of their classic wet woody beverage in all its glory! I had one & a half of these & lost at mini golf with the husband (first time losing in like 10 yrs) I’m convinced he got me sloshed on purpose?☺️
An all out great time in both cities me thinks, get in!!! So that concludes my summer Holidaze lovies! Next week Wednesday I’ll get back on track speaking of the fall trends & how to wear them…
Ello lovies! Taking you back to the nightmare of our Renovations you reckon?! Both our bathrooms are finally done & I can’t tell you how happy we are with the end results. Here are some pictures to show the before & after like I promised… we went with smoky mosiac tile floors that look like wood (as floors get dirty easily), white porcelain wall tiles with a hint of gray & white quartz countertops with the same color scheme which opened up the bathroom as they’re small. Brushed nickel was our choice of metal for all of our appliances so that flowed from the shower head to the bog (toilet) paper holder.
What a difference 1 month makes innit?! After all the drama & disappointment amazing work came out of it!
In continuance with my San Franciscan summer holiday, Day 3 we were feeling groggy after the ice-cream coma so decided we needed an energy boost & rented bicycles!
Our bike ride lasted 8 bloody miles which was NOT our intention so a bike hike is what it turned out to be,Lol ? We rode our bikes from Fishermans wharf down to the Golden Gate bridge and then rode through the Presidio down to Golden Gate Park where we laid on the grass for a bit to relax.
Here is a pic of me rocking my Lorna Jane workout gear after our exhausting bike/ hike. We decided to do one of my favorite things, SHOPPING!!!? We hit up Haight-Ashbury for the stores that don’t exist back home in Arizona. We went to boutiques & found so many graffiti wall art which I fell in love with! Here I am rocking my Topshop Jamie denim, Miss selfridge Nude off- the shoulder bodysuit, Zara bag & Urban Outfitters gray booties.
That night was my favorite night of the entire trip as we were invited by our bestie Badfish to watch his Dj friend lay down some tracks at Madrone Art Bar in Hayes Valley. The theme was Motown Monday’s & as soon as we got into the bar people were boogieing down like it was “1999”! I was like “here are my people!” So I just danced through the crowd & we were dancing all night! Here Zack & I are happy having had a little sauce ☺️ but mostly just enjoying the great ambiance!
Next week Wednesday I’ll let you know about the last chapter of our Holidaze including our journey to Lake Tahoe!
Summer holidays are the BEST aren’t they?? When I was younger living in London with my family whenever we knew summer holidays were fast approaching we couldn’t wait to vacate the monotony of our everyday lives &” live like there was no tomorrow!” The same feelings still pertains to today with work. The hubby, Zack & I decided to skip our usual jaunt of visiting my hometown London (due to the scary terrorist attacks) & stay more local by going to our favorite City in the entire U.S, San Francisco & then Lake Tahoe.
We decided to make the 14 hour drive there as I hate flying. Having a 2 and a half year long distance relationship 10 years ago with Zack from London to Arizona every 3 months when we were dating did not cure me of my fear of flying but it is what it is! Leaving straight after work Friday evening, laying over in Bakersfield, California then arriving mid afternoon on Saturday at our Air BnB near Fisherman’s Wharf was a mighty feat indeed, golly gumdrops!
Saturday we spent unpacking, realizing this was the worst Air BnB we were about to stay at due to their exaggeration of the size & luxury of the flat so we settled into San Franciscan living. We hit a local bar the first night then met up with One of our best friends Badfish for dinner at a restaurant Called HorseFeather in Hayes Valley which was bloody brilliant! I opted for the Fried crab legs (when in Rome & all) & quinoa/ runny egg concoction which was amazing! We then headed back to Badfish’s place for some Rooftop Tom foolery.
As you can see in the pics, the first evening I decided to wear one of the big pre-fall trends “Spot On”. This dress was black with white polka dots, off-the shoulder, fitted all the way in the waist through & 3/4 knee length & the piece de resistance was the tie back. Warning, you’ll need assistance unless your double jointed but at under $60.00 from Zara, you won’t care! Teamed up with my hot pink bauble bar Piñata earrings (which I’m obsessed with, have them in 5 colors now) black & silver western shoeties with a cut out back from Topshop.
Day 2 was all about exploring so we had breakfast at Beach Street Grill, an Organic restaurant with offerings of homemade comfort food & Gluten Free goodness (my gluten intolerance sucks) so we were sold! I got the gluten free french toast with berries on the side- which was such delicious food until I found a fruit worm burying into one of my blackberries! Eeek! After reporting to the owner’s sister whom was our Server she informed us this happens once a day & that was the perils of being all natural & not using pesticides & such!
We decided to play Tourist & walk around Pier 39 where there were boats from eons ago parked on the ocean, a vintage Arcade that had games that are no longer offered & even a fair & merry go-around. A trip to see the sea lions bathing in the sun was also magical.
A boat trip to Saulsalito, California a small beach town across the Ocean was one of my favorite trips. It took my honey & I about 20 mins to get there, we boarded on Pier 41 & spent 2 hours exploring this sleepy beach town. We even went to the Trident, a restaurant my in-Laws had gone to when they were still dating…
The day ended with an Ice -cream at the local Saulsalito ice cream store, some Taffy just like my namesake & a sugar filled coma :). Catch you next week Wednesday lovies for more updates on our summer holidaze!
